Headliners: Volume Five One of bluegrass’ hottest groups, Volume Five, will be headlining the 2019 Jake Landers Bluegrass Concert, 7 p.m., Feb. 9 at the Ritz Theatre, Sheffield AL.

Volume Five is coming off a wave of critical praise for their 2017 album “Drifter,” which won an International Bluegrass Music Association award for Song of the Year for the single “I Am a Drifter” and helped earn the band an IBMA award for Emerging Artist of the Year. In 2018 they released their seventh album in 10 years, “Milestones."

 Iron Horse

The group will be joined by Iron Horse, who are regular performers at the annual concert to help carry on the legacy of Jake Landers. Tickets to the concert are $25 and can be purchased at the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, 511 N. Water St., Tuscumbia, or by calling 256-383-0533. 

This group has a new sound for Bluegrass and they always perform with a spirit and sense of style that pays the most gratifying compliment to acoustic and bluegrass lovers; a warm mixture of family influence, belief in God, and an unwillingness to deny their creative urges.

Pre-show Demonstration  At 6 p.m., Feb. 9 at the Ritz Theatre, Scooter Muse will conduct a free pre-show banjo demonstration which will include discussions about technique and history. 

 

   

 

 

 About Jake Landers        

Bluegrass at the Ritz honors Jake Landers, premier bluegrass songwriter and musician who co-founded The Dixie Gentlemen. Landers was one of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys and has played the Grand Ole Opry. Landers penned several hit songs including Walk Softly On this Heart of Mine that sold 22 million copies and was nominated for a Grammy Award. Jake holds the distinction of Music Achiever at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. He was inducted with the first class into the Alabama Bluegrass Hall of Fame.

Co-Founder of the “Dixie Gentlemen”, Landers has performed with Bill Monroe’s “Blue Grass Boys” and at the Grand Ole Opry. He is an award-winning songwriter. “Walk Softly On This Heart of Mine” sold 22 million copies for the Kentucky Headhunters and was nominated for a Grammy for Ricky Skaggs and the Dixie Chics. Landers has been inducted into the Alabama Bluegrass Hall of Fame and recognized as a Music Achiever in the Alabamba Music Hall of Fame.
